In real life, we often hear this sentence:"You go your way, I go mine.", used to express that the speakers do not interfere with each other and go their separate ways. Among them, "Yangguan Road" means a road with convenient transportation. Later, it was extended to a bright road in use, implying a good way out. In fact, "Yangguan" is a real place name, located in Dunhuang, Gansu Province. During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, the Western Regions were connected, and four counties and two passes were set up. The most important pass was Yangguan. Together with Yumenguan, Yangguan was responsible for defending the northwestern border and became a must-pass place for the two north-south passages of the ancient Silk Road. Through Yangguan, the ancients could go west to the Tarim Basin, Central Asia and Europe, so Yangguan became a key passage from the Central Plains to the Western Regions. Since the Han Dynasty, civil officials and military generals have left their homeland here to write the history of battles and border defense; merchants and envoys have verified their pass here, interpreting the glory of the Silk Road with the sound of camel bells; literati and poets were moved by the scene here, leaving behind the eternal chants of mixed sadness and joy. So, why did Yangguan, which was originally a place name, appear in colloquialisms and express the meaning of mournful separation? As an important southern pass, Yangguan directly connects the interior and exterior of the Great Wall. Due to the continuous trade on the Silk Road, it has become a prosperous thoroughfare. Famous monks and travelers of all dynasties have visited Yangguan, leaving behind a historical mark of foreign traffic. According to historical records, in the 19th year of the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty,(645)In the 16th century, the Tang monk Xuanzang returned from his journey to the west to seek Buddhist scriptures and was warmly welcomed by the local residents when he passed through Yangguan. The Italian traveler Marco Polo also entered the East from the West through Yangguan. Such a convenient road was not only an important channel for ancient commerce and trade, connecting different regions and cultures, but also witnessed the separation and reunion of people. Gradually, in the writings of famous literati, Yangguan was endowed with the emotion of parting. The term "Yangguan Road" first appeared in Wang Wei's "Sending Liu Sizhi to Anxi" in the Tang Dynasty, "The Yangguan Road in the remote area, Hu sand and dust in the frontier". This poem was written by Wang Wei when his good friend Liu Sizhi was ordered to go to the Frontier Protectorate. Wang Wei, who was reluctant to leave, wrote this poem to introduce him to the situation outside the frontier.Sending Yuan Er to AnxiIn the book, Wang Wei sent his friend to Yangguan Pass and improvised a poem, leaving behind the masterpiece "I urge you to drink another cup of wine, there will be no friends when you go west of Yangguan Pass", expressing his reluctance and worry about Yuan Er's mission to Qiuci in the Western Regions without his friends. It is these kinds of partings and reunions that make this road full of human touch and stories, full of the sorrow and sadness of the vicissitudes of life.Later, people put the wide and convenient "Yangguan Road" and the narrow and dangerous "Single-plank Bridge" together to represent different choices on the road of life. But life is like a journey, and I am also a pedestrian. Every road has its unique scenery and challenges. No matter which road you take, as long as you are brave and determined, you will definitely find your own road in life.
